America. The land that stretches between two oceans, spans a continent, contains a checker-work of citizenry and nurtures a vibrant (though sometimes tumultuous) civil society. I firmly believe that I live in the best nation that has ever existed. By the grace of God, in spite of depravity, America represents mankind at his best, his most ideal. Here follows five reasons I am glad to be an American and live in the USA:
- We are a free people. The power of our government is limited by our constitution. Our officials serve the American people.
- American is a land of plenty and immeasurable prosperity. Although we have fewer natural resources than other nations, God has blessed us with much and endued good minds to make the most of the resources that we do have.
- We are naturally a risk taking people. We are willing to take risks to get ahead, make money, or get the job done. We take the initiative.
- Americans hold a bold and cherished ideal – that all men are created equal and possess a natural dignity given to them by their Creator. Even the most dry matter-of-fact Americans are refreshing idealists of sorts.
- Lastly, America is a land of opportunity. Our souls beat with optimism. We are a place where one’s future is not determined by privilege of birth or the affluence of one’s parents. This is my land. My America!
While it is true that no nation is perfect and we have many flaws, I earnestly pray that God will raise up a grass-roots army of godly men across our land who will highly prize the gospel of Jesus Christ. Who will repent, and call their neighbors and their nation to repentance. Who will walk not in the way of this people and not fear their dread. Who, filled with the Spirit, see the world through eyes of faith. It is not with our God to save with many or by the few worldly elite. He doesn’t need to simply get the right men into office; although, He surely could if that is his plan. I am persuaded that a few truly godly men, even one or two, with the blessing of God, will influence the course of our nation for lasting good.

O beautiful for patriot dream that sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam undimmed by human tears.
America! America! God shed his grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood from sea to shining sea.

Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers, For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
