The 47th March for Life was held last week on January 24th in DC. I’ve been wanting to go for several years now, but it just hadn’t worked out, so I’m glad that everything fell into place this time for me to go!
One of the highlights of the march was hearing from President Trump. After arriving on the National Mall a bit early and waiting thru security which was apparently tighter than usual due to the President speaking, I got a spot about 1/3 of the way to the grandstand. Unfortunately, being short has it’s disadvantages sometimes and so I wasn’t able to see the speakers themselves, but I got an ok view of the main screen.
Security was fairly tight. There were significant numbers of Secret Service at the screening area and around the rally perimeter. Most of them left once Trump finished speaking.
The march itself was amazing. The atmosphere was so positive, hopeful, and compassionate. Many of the marchers were younger than myself, all dedicated to opposing the evil of abortion. The marchers were courteous and well mannered. I hardly heard a swear word during my entire trip. I could not help noticing that this culture of life is so diametrically opposed to the culture of death that walked those same streets one week before. And also, because we recognize the inherent dignity of life and that women deserve better, the march could not be more pro-woman.
Marching for the life of the unborn is special, because in one sense, we are marching for the unborn, but in another, I think, we are also celebrating God, the Author and Giver of all life, both physical and spiritual:
I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture…. I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. I am the Good Shepherd: the Good Shepherd giveth His life for the sheep.
Jn. 10:9-11
The day after the march, I attended the National Pro-Life Summit along with 3200 other high schoolers, college students, and older folks like me. There were great speakers: Scott Walker, David Daleiden, Charlotte Bond (Pence) among others, and the informational breakout sessions were relatively useful. I especially appreciated the atmosphere created by so many dedicated, like-minded individuals being together in one place and passionate about engaging for life.
